Eleven years ago Pedro Zapeta illegally entered the US from Guatemala and got a job washing dishes in Florida. For 11 years Zapeta worked hard and saved his money. Zapeta saved $59,000 and tried to take it back to Guatemala in a sack. The feds find the money at the airport, confiscate it, and now will not give it back. I really just don’t know how to feel about this one.
Pedro was here illegally, but the money he made is his in my opinion. Pedro admits he didn’t pay taxes, but he probably never made enough to pay taxes anyway.
I really just don’t know who to be mad at…Pedro or the government…I am leaning toward the government who essentially stole all of the money that Pedro worked his tail off for. How bout we take any taxes owed, give his money back and send him back to Guatemala.
