Houston paying huge price for Katrina evacuees.

Last week on Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume they reported on some statistics on the increase in crime in Houston, Texas since the Katrina evacuees showed up. Since Katrina, Houston has experienced a 17% increase in homicides. At least 34 murders have been committed by Katrina evacuees. The price tag to Houstonians for the increased crime related to Katrina evacuees is around $18 million.

This is not at all surprising to me. This was the same crime culture that plagued the city of New Orleans. I just feel sorry for the people of Houston who now have a big problem on their hands because the likelihood of the evacuees ever returning to New Orleans is slim.

By the way... Is it still accurate to call them Katrina evacuees at this point...hmmm how about Katrina floaters...or Katrina debris.

As a resident of Houston, I have to agree that the saying "no good deed goes unpunished" definitely applies here. I have even been a victim of the indiscriminate violence that some of these thugs from New Orleans have brought to our city. There are two bullet holes in my apartment wall now...
