A while ago we told you about an expensive desert at a resort, well a famous New York eatery has set the world record for the most expensive dessert by offering a $25,000 chocolate sundae.
Who the hell buys a 25,000 dollar choclate sundae???

Country Boy's College Football Commentary
Here is what to watch for in week 8:
Who’s Hot
Well, we have reached the half way mark in this wild season. So who is hot? College Football! Can anyone recall a wilder season than the one we are watching this season. Here are some defining moments: Appalachian St. shocking Michigan at the Big House and Notre Dame’s 33-3 loss at home to Georgia Tech making it the first time ever both teams lost there season opener on the same day!
Then Notre Dame goes on to a gut wrenching 0-5 start for the first time in history.
What happened to Louisville? The Cardinals started the season national title contenders now they’re fighting to keep a nine-year in a row bowl appearance intact. Wisconsin has been another disappointment.
There have also been some pleasant surprises along the way.
South Florida may be the ugliest undefeated team I have ever seen play, but they keep winning, and after the top two teams losing last week South Florida finds themselves in the #2 seat. Who’d a thunk that!
What a surprise Ron Zook has brought to Illinois in freshmen WR Arrelious Benn and work horse running back Rashard Mendenhall puts the “paign” in Champaign with his smash mouth style of running that ensures the Illini’s first bowl bid since 2001 and a chance at a Big Ten title.
At South Carolina, coach Steve Spurrier handed the keys to a redshirt freshman whose improving passing just might lift the Gamecocks to their first SEC title.
Who’s Not
Stanford was 41 point underdogs two weeks ago when they upset USC 24-23 in the biggest upset of the season that has become the Year of the Upset, but the stunner could just be the beginning of a downward spiral for the Trojans. The Trojans have games at Oregon, Cal and Arizona St. that may leave them eating more pieces of humble pie and the way this season has been going USC traveling to South Bend to fight the Irish of Notre Dame could get interesting.
Upset Watch:#13 USC vs. Notre Dame
I know it’s crazy! There is really no reason to make this pick. In fact, you have to be one slice of bread short of a sandwich to even consider it, but something tells me USC is going to get the scare of their life in South Bend this weekend. Even though this should be a game that the Trojans win easily.
However, the way this season has gone is it really that much of a stretch? Is it.
Plus, who is going to be USC’s quarterback? And how effective will he be? If John David Booty gets the start, one has to wonder how the broken finger will effect his accuracy. It wasn’t too pretty in the Stanford game. If it is Mark Sanchez who gets the start, how will he react in his first road start in a tough situation? He didn’t look that good last week in a win over Arizona.
Let’s not get it twisted. I am no fool. There is no way that I think the Notre Dame defense can take control of this football game. The reality is USC should win by two or three touchdowns, but if the Trojan offense gives away a few turnovers and gives the Irish offense short fields the game changes. Winning this rivalry game also saves the Irish’s season, and the way this season is going nothing is that much of a stretch.
Prediction: #13USC 12 vs. Notre Dame 14
Other games to watch for upsets in:
#20 Tennessee 24 vs. Alabama 28
Illinois 24 vs. #24 Michigan 17

Country Boy's College Football Commentary

The craziness of this season continues. First off let me apologize to all the Texas and Oklahoma fans for not mentioning the Red River Shootout in the top games last week. I can’t believe I left it out myself, and what a great game it was. It came down to the wire as Oklahoma scored in the final minutes to beat Texas 28-21.
A couple of surprises this week as well. Stanford upset #2 USC 24-23, Tennessee found some defense to knock off #12 Georgia 35-14. Georgia was never in the game trailing 28-0 at the half, and the Fighting Illini of Illinois continues to roll as they clip #5 Wisconsin 31-26.
Here is what to watch for in week 7:
Who’s Hot
I mentioned last week that the Fighting Illini of Illinois may be the most underrated team in college football, not any more. Get ready, Ron Zook. A week ago Illinois was hardly on anyone’s radar. Their win over Penn St was a fluke they said. This week the detractors will be jumping on the Illini bandwagon after upsetting #5 Wisconsin for their 5th win in a row and second win in a row against ranked teams.
Illinois is hot, real hot! Of course don’t mention it to Fighting Illini coach Ron Zook. He won’t admit it and will change the subject.
“We have to just keep playing,” Zook says. “We can’t be concerned by the noise in the system.”
Great advise from the former Florida Gator coach, but how about this for some noise: Illinois is…the best team in the Big Ten. They have better wins than anyone in the Big Ten. A punishing ground game and offense that can score from anywhere on the field.
There is no team in the Big Ten that possesses as much talent at the three key positions of quarterback, tailback and wideout as Illinois.
Quarterback Juice Williams, tailback Rashard Mendenhall and wideout Regis Benn combined for 505 yards and three touchdowns against the Badgers. Mendenhall gained 160 of those on only 19 carries.
Defense…although not great, it improves every week led by linebacker J. Leman.
“We’re getting there, man,” said Leman. “We’ve got to play at the same level as the offense; the same attitude.”
If that happens the Illini will be smelling roses in Pasadena come January.
Now that is noise in the system.
The now 18th ranked Illini (5-1) will travel to Iowa (0-4) but don’t let the record mislead you. This will be a battle of a football game. Iowa’s defense will match up well against the Illini’s spread option style offense. Illini will win in a low scoring game 14-10.
Who’s Not
Previously #9 Florida has now lost two in a row to unranked Auburn and #1 LSU. Good news for the Gators. They get a bye this week to regroup, but things won’t get any easier as #17 Kentucky is next on their schedule.
Upset Watch:Sorry, no time for analysis, but I got a few games on the upset watch:
Louisville 32 vs. #15 Cincinnati 28
Penn St. 24 vs. #19 Wisconsin 10
#11 Missouri 34 vs. #6 Oklahoma 28
Now the rest of the top 25:
#21 Florida St. 17 vs Wake Forest 14
#16 Hawaii 38 vs. San Jose St. 21
UCF 10 #5 South Florida 32
#3 Ohio St. 48 Kent St. 3
#12 Virginia Tech. 34 Duke 7

$5,000 for every child
Isn’t that nice, have a baby and boom the government owes your child five thousand bucks! Where will the money come from to fund this new entitlement program? Where do you think…the taxpayers of course.
Hilary hasn’t explained exactly where the money would come from or how the program would work, but do we really need her to? I am pretty sure how this income redistribution plan will work.
First we will have to repeal the Bush tax cuts to help pay for it. Next we will get to listen every election year to Democrats say vote for me and I will raise the baby bonus, vote for Republicans and they will try to take your baby bonus away! It already happens with Social Security.
So what happens when the program ends up in financial crisis? Well that is easy. Democrats will suggest that the baby bonus get phased out for people in upper income brackets. In other words, stiff the high achievers.
Government Healthcare from around the world
The British National Health Service rates mediocre at best even with more and more funding being put into it.
Britain now ranks 17th out of all of Europe in terms of healthcare. All the countries ranking lower than Britain were much poorer.
Now here is something to make a note of, in Europe there are two types of healthcare. The British "Beveridge" system unifies funding and provision. The other is the German "Bismarck" system based around the competing interests of insurance organizations that are independent of health service suppliers.
The top five countries in Europe all follow this "Bismark" system. Imagine that!
The healthcare system in Ireland is even worse. New figures shows 12,000 folks are waiting six months or more for hospital treatment, and over 2,200 children are waiting three months or more for treatment. In total, there are currently 41,000 people on hospital waiting lists.
Now they have announced that they are going to freeze staff recruitment because of overspending.
Aren’t you looking forward to national healthcare?
Country Boy's College Football Commentary

Lets take a look into week 6 with some commentary from Country Boy:
Who’s Hot
The hottest team in college football right now is the 11th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier led his team to a sound victory over the 8th ranked Kentucky Wildcats 38-23 last night.
Defensive end Eric Norwood tied an NCAA record with two fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns against the previously undefeated Wildcats.
The Gamecocks now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the SEC with wins over Georgia, Mississippi St. and Kentucky finds themselves in the hunt for an SEC title and should break into the top ten before traveling to the University of North Carolina next week.
Who’s Not.
Notre Dame, as a fan of the Irish it is just sickening to watch anymore. At 0-5 it is the Irish’s worst start ever in the schools history. At the beginning of the season the debate was if Notre Dame could win 6 games this season, and I thought they could. Now I wonder if they can win at all! It’s going to be a long season for Charlie Weiss and the Irish as they face UCLA this week and a possible 0-6 record.
Prediction: UCLA 21 Notre Dame 10
Upset Watch
#5 Wisconsin vs. Illinois
The game with the biggest upset potential this Saturday is 5th ranked Wisconsin at non-ranked Illinois. Former Florida Gator coach Ron Zook has recruited some of the finest football players in the country at Illinois and they are proving that the Illini are pushovers no more. Football is a game of momentum and right now there is a lot of momentum in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The Fighting Illini have won four in a row and upset then ranked 19th Penn St. last week 27-20. The Illini are 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big Ten and should be ranked. The Illini maybe the most underrated team in college football. The Badgers are undefeated at 5-0 and hold the longest winning streak in the nation at 17 games, but have yet to play a ranked team this season, have trailed in the fourth quarter in its last 3 games and beat their last two opponents by combined score of only seven points.
Last week, the Badgers escaped Camp Randall with a 37-34 win over unranked Michigan St. when Taylor Mehlhaf kicked a 22 yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.
The Badgers fall short this week. Prediction: Wisconsin 31 Illinois 34
Top Games of the Week:
#9 Florida vs. #1 LSU
All eyes were suppose to be on Baton Rouge, La., this week as LSU was suppose to play Florida in potentially the biggest game of the year. I had this game marked on my calendar back in July, but something happened on the way to Death Valley. The Gators lost to Auburn last week and Florida Gator senior safety and team captain Tony Joiner was arrested and charged with burglary early Tuesday morning. He probably will not play, but will have to wait and see.
So this week’s clash of the titans has lost a lot of its size. I guess that is why they play the season, because you just never know what will happen. Anyways, it will still be an important game for both teams.
If Joiner doesn’t play, Tiger quarterbacks Matt Flynn and Ryan Perriloux will pick apart the Gator secondary with much greater ease than what Auburn’s Brandon Cox was able to do it last week.
If Joiner does play, the Gators may have a chance, but they will have to become more diverse on offense and spread the ball around a little bit more that the two man show they currently have going on with quarterback Tim Tebow and receiver Percy Havin. They will have to establish a running game early and that is going to be a hard task to do against LSU’s front seven. Prediction Florida 17 LSU 31.
#12 Georgia vs. Tennessee
This is another game that lost some of its flavor when Georgia lost early in the season to South Carolina and Tennessee lost to California and Florida, but Auburn’s upset over Florida last week opens the door to the SEC race for both teams.
Saturday’s game in Knoxville will not likely decide the division winner, but it is safe to say the loser will be out of contention. The Bulldogs have beaten the Vols in its last three trips to Neyland Stadium.
The Vols have lost against its last four ranked opponents and have struggled on defense this season. They rank 88th in the nation against the run which should benefit Bulldog running backs Thomas Brown and Knowshon Moreno, who combined for 277 yards against Mississippi last week. Moreno has been averaging 86.4 yards a game and Brown has gained another 78.6 average yards per game. Prediction: Georgia 24 Tennessee 14
#4 Ohio St. vs. #23 Purdue
This one may be the best game to watch with a potent Purdue Boilmaker offense hosting a smothering Ohio St. Buckeye defense. The key factor in this game will not be the Boilmakers offense but whether or not their defense can slow down Buckeye running back Beanie Wells who has rushed for over 100 yards in four games. However, Wells has had a case of fumbleitis in the past and lost a fumble against Minnesota. The Buckeyes definitely do not want to give the Boilmaker offense field position, points and/or momentum at home by turning the ball over. Wells must hold on to the football. Prediction: Ohio St 31 Purdue 24
Predictions of the rest of the top 25
#13 W. Virginia 31 Syracuse 10
Kansas 7 #24 Kansas St. 24
Bowling Green 9 Boston College 31
#10 Oklahoma 38 #19 Texas 34

My absence and the new blog
Thanks for all those who voted for the name of the new blog. “Country Boy Logic” was the winning name. The new blog is in the works and should be available by the first of the year at the latest. I will keep you posted.
It is official; Fred Thompson wants to be president, bad news for Hilary

After the show Thompson aired a video on his campaign web site stating he is running because of threats to national security, the economy and the need to change Washington . “I know that reform is possible in Washington because I have seen it done,” he said. “I do not accept it as fact of life beyond our power to change that the federal government must go on expanding more, taxing more and spending more forever.”
Thompson, former Senator from Tenn. , has been extremely popular among the more conservative base of the Republican Party, and his Southern roots, conservative message and celebrity appeal as an actor in movies and the hit TV show “Law and Order” has kept him among the front runners in the polls before announcing his campaign.
Since announcing his campaign Thompson has been neck to neck with Rudy Giuliani for the top spot and as of Sept 23 he leads 26% to Giuliani’s 22% in a Rasmussen Poll of likely Republican Primary voters.
I expect this lead to increase over the time leading up to the primaries.
This is bad news for Hilary Clinton, because now conservatives have a candidate to vote for instead of just voting against her. These two factors will motivate the conservative base of the Republican Party to heights not seen since 1980.
Ever hear of the Immigration Diversity Program? Visas for potential terrorists!
The program is part of the Immigration Act of 1990 and has allowed 3,703 people from Sudan , 3,164 from Iran , 2,763 from Cuba and 162 from Syria to enter the United States and apply for permanent legal resident status since the year 2000.
Here is the real kicker though folks. All of these people were allowed to become legal residents without having any family in the U.S. or an employer petitioning on their behalf.
The State Department warned in 2003 that the program posed a significant threat to national security and recommend it be closed to people from countries on the U.S. list of states that sponsor terrorism, but the program remains.
Top terrorism experts and federal law enforcement officials familiar with immigration fraud, to include the Department of Homeland Security, believe that it could be possible for terrorists to use fraudulent means and enter or remain in the United States.
A U.S. security officer in Turkey said it would be possible for Iranian intelligence officers to pose as applicants and not be detected if their identities were not already known to U.S. intelligence.
Why on Earth is this program still in existence? Perhaps it is time for a letter to your congressman telling them to put an end to this nonsense.
Not sure who your congressman is? Well, that is embarrassing, but maybe this will help. Find your representatives here.
Ahmedinejad and Hitler are welcomed guest at Columbia U, but not the Minute Man or ROTC
Now the University is hiding behind the concept of free speech for the reasoning of letting him speak.
I have no problems in the idea of free speech and allowing this madman to speak at the University. I find it ironic that the students chance to free speech in the form of questions to the Iranian leader will however be monitored.
Here is my problem with this whole situation. Columbia University seems to only care about free speech when it comes to certain ideas or people.
In fact John Coatsworth the Dean of Columbia University said recently on Fox News that he would have allowed Hitler to speak if he was available, but in the past when the founder of the Minute Men Project was scheduled to speak, the speech was cancelled and he was uninvited. Columbia also does not allow ROTC on their campus. So it seems Hitler and Amadinajen are good to go, but a man who founded an organization to monitor illegal activity along our borders, or young men training to be officers in the military are not welcomed.
I guess you can tell a lot about someone by the people they welcome to their home, and those they turn away.
Obama's Social Security Fix: raise taxes of course.
Barrack Obama has an idea on how he would fix the Social Security system. He would eliminate the earning cap and tax every dollar someone makes at the Social Security rate. Obama then wants to impose an additional 12.4% Social Security tax on the rich of course. There is nothing like punishing the over achiever in America.Obama says that by taxing the rich we can eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall. Isn’t that just a wonderful idea? I mean after all the rich can afford it, who cares?
Well, you might find it interesting to know Obama’s idea of rich is anyone who makes more than $97,000 a year. I bet you folks that make 97,000 didn’t know you were rich.
Anyway, this is a typical liberal solution to a social program like Social Security and should come as no surprise. One thing is for sure, if Obama gets his way Social Security will finally be exposed for the income redistribution scheme it has always been. You take from those who are working and give to those who are not.
Robert Bixby is the executive director of the Concord Coalition, a non-partisan group advocating a balanced budget. He says that this would be a radical change from how Social Security was originally designed, because "it would end the contributory idea of Social Security, where you get back something for what you put in."Folks I will never get back even 10% of what I will have put in to Social Security…
Country Boy's Social Security fix: FairTax
It would also create tax revenue from sectors of the economy the federal government currently does not receive any revenue from.
When tourists come to the U.S. and spend their billions of dollars do they pay any Social Security Tax? Nope, but under the FairTax they do.
How about the billions and billions of dollars that goes untaxed in the underground economy of organized crime, drug dealing, and the income of our illegal aliens? The FairTax makes them all taxpayers as well. Never heard of the FairTax? Isn’t it time you learn about this revolutionary grass movement that would eliminate the IRS forever and transfer more power from politicians to the people since 1776?
Go to FairTax.org to learn more or buy the New York Times Best Seller FairTax book here.
Bush threatens veto on budget; wants dems to cut $22 billion
It will be O.K. folks. You will still get your government checks if they miss the Oct 1. deadline thanks to stopgap legislation, which allows the government to operate at current spending levels.
The President has proposed a budget of $933 billion and the democrats want to add $22 billion more.
Democrats are arguing that it is only a 2.4% of the domestic spending and less than 1% of the total budget. It is just a “small difference.”
Well, if it is such a “small difference” why we so worried about it. I mean, what $22 billion will buy you anyways. It is such a “small difference.”
Of course, let us not forget that Republicans acted the same way when they controlled the budget process. That is why Democrats are in control now. Some things never change I guess….Bush says Democrats are trying to sneak special projects into the budget because they are unwilling to debate the “projects” openly. Now why would they want to do that? Maybe because they know that is the only way there “projects” can become a reality.
That just ain't right, right there...

The organizers for the San Francisco Folsom Street Festival, who’s main sponsor is the Miller Brewing Company, has made a mockery of the Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” portraying Jesus and his disciples as half-naked homosexual sadomasochists and replacing the “body and blood of Christ” with sex toys!
If they had mocked Mohammed in similar fashion there would be riots and murder on the street, but since it is Christianity being mocked, well that is ok.
Regardless about how you feel about homosexuality how can anyone possibly justify these actions? Shouldn’t descent honest people boycott the sponsors of this event?
Here is a link to the sponsors of this event, but other than the Miller Brewing Company most of the other companies look like they probably market to the gay community and probably don’t care about their connection to such blasphemous trash. Miller Brewing Company might…but then again…they might not.
Either way, as Larry the Cable Guy says, “That just ain’t right, right there…”
Pedro the dishwasher has $59,000 confiscated by the government
Pedro was here illegally, but the money he made is his in my opinion. Pedro admits he didn’t pay taxes, but he probably never made enough to pay taxes anyway.
I really just don’t know who to be mad at…Pedro or the government…I am leaning toward the government who essentially stole all of the money that Pedro worked his tail off for. How bout we take any taxes owed, give his money back and send him back to Guatemala.
Voter I.D. Law to be decided by Supreme Court
Of course Democrats says it targets the poor and minorities who predominately vote Democrat…not making to much sense to me…
Anyways, Bill Groth is the attorney representing the Indiana Democrat Party. He says, "The court has over and over stressed that the right to vote should be protected, and any state law that burdens that right should be carefully and meticulously reviewed."
I wonder if Mr. Groth can show me the part in the U.S. Constitution that protects the right to vote in a federal election? He can’t folks, because it isn’t there. There is no right to vote in any federal election under our constitution. You don’t believe me, go ahead try to find it for yourself.

9-11: Six Years Later
It has been six years since Islamic terrorist waged war on America by flying jet airliners into the Twin Towers in New York City, and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Six years since one brave group of passengers on a hijacked plane decided to take matters into their own hands and fight back ensuring the plane never reached its target and instead crashed into a Pa. field.Every American that died that day became the first casualties in a war declared on us by Islamic terrorists willing to die for their cause of world Islamic dominance.
Six years later I remember that day that changed the course of my life and the course of the world and history forever. Many others will remember and reflect on the day as well. Yet, some would rather forget, and try to act as the day never happened. A school in Utah has decided it will not take time to remember the attack because they, as they say, “don’t want to dwell on violence.” I say to them, lets not forget who brought the violence. Let’s not forget the enemy we face knows no other alternative than the use of violence to advance their agenda.
Six years later Osama Bin Laden reminds us of their evil in a tape of the Quran’s instructions to faithful Muslims that when they encounter a “non-believer” it is their duty to either enslave, convert, or kill them.
These Islamic fascists are dedicated to the destruction of the West and it seems at times, these Islamic fascist extremists have far more dedication and patience in the pursuit of their goals than a lot of the American people have in the defense of our culture.
It is important to remember 9-11 because through memories of that day we learn. We learn that we can not turn a blind eye to evil in the world without eventually facing the consequences.
Six years ago I had a good job, a good salary, and was living a good life. After 9-11, I took a significant pay cut to enlist in the Army to fight terrorists and help preserve that way of life.
Today, I am still in the Army, and I sit in Afghanistan writing this just a few miles from where Osama Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders where allowed to start a movement of hate and pure evil. Where they were allowed to plan and orchestrate the largest terrorist attack the world has ever seen.
Six years ago 19 terrorists gave their lives carrying out the largest attack on U.S. soil for their cause in the name of Allah, today U.S. Servicemembers fight in Afghanistan prepared to give their life so that it will never happen again.

MTCW Pic of the Day
Young America's Foundation gets the MTCW award for backbone.
Spencer was invited to speak to the Young America’s Foundation to address their National Conservative Student Conference.
This really put CAIR’s turbans in a knot.
Spencer maintains a blog called jihad watch that depicts the atrocities of Islamic terrorists around the world. He is also the author of several books that are not friendly to Islamic fascism. Some of the titles: “The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion” and “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam.”
CAIR worked really hard at trying to get YAF to cancel Spencer’s speech. They issued a demand to YAF that he not be allowed to speak. In the event that he does speak they demanded all false and defamatory statements are not to be disseminated at the session.
A false and defamatory statement would be anything that accurately describes the atrocities committed world wild in the name of Allah of course. You know, cause Islam is just so peaceful and accepting.
Now here is the part where YAF earns the MTCW award for backbone.
Jason Mattera, a spokesperson for YAF proclaimed that they would not be intimidated by Islamic thugs and followed with this comment:
“CAIR can go to Hell and they can take their 72 virgins with them.”
Bridge collapses in Minneapolis; it must be the republicans and Bush's fault!
Of course this is the same Senator that praised Osama Bin Ladin in December of 2004.
Then we have journalist Nick Coleman from the Minneapolis- St. Paul Star Tribune. He says the collapse would have never happened if it wasn’t for Governor Tim Pawlenty’s refusal to raise taxes. Pawlenty is of course one of those evil republicans.
Coleman writes:: "For half a dozen years, the motto of state government and particularly that of Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been No New Taxes. It's been popular with a lot of voters and it has mostly prevailed. So much so that Pawlenty vetoed a 5-cent gas tax increase - the first in 20 years - last spring and millions were lost that might have gone to road repair. And yes, it would have fallen even if the gas tax had gone through, because we are years behind a dangerous curve when it comes to the replacement of infrastructure that everyone but wingnuts in coonskin caps agree is one of the basic duties of government."
Agreed, road construction and infrastructure repairs are the basic duties of government, but let’s take a look and see just how desperately the State of Minnesota needed higher taxes to have the money.
What Coleman fails to report is at the time Gov. Pawlenty vetoed this 5 cent gas tax increase, the State of Minnesota already had 2.1 billion dollars in budget surplus from overtaxation!
Coleman also makes it seem no money was added for road or bridge repairs, but that is just not the case. Around the same time Pawlenty vetoed the gas tax, the state legislature passed an amendment to spend all, rather than half, of the motor vehicle tax revenue on transportation. This added 60 million bucks a year with the anticipation of doubling in 5 years to road, bridge and transit spending.
Coleman and Sen. Murray would like us to believe that higher taxes and more money would have prevented that bridge from collapsing and that it is republican’s and President George W. Bush’s fault for not raising taxes or approving increased spending. That is just not the case; there was enough money in the Minnesota legislature to fix that bridge twice, probably more. The problem was fiscal responsibility, not low taxes.
Let’s take a look into the state legislatures spending habits and look at the Citizens for Government Waste's "The Pig Booklet" for the state of Minnesota for the year 2006. Take a look at all of the "pork" projects. Here are my favorite worthless projects:
The state bailout of the Minneapolis Teacher's Retirement Fund, which puts state taxpayers on the hook for $972 million in unfunded liabilities
A new $776 million Twins Stadium to be paid for with a Hennepin County sales tax increase -- (approved by state legislators with no voter referendum)
$97.5 million for the Northstar Commuter Rail line
$34 million in subsidies to ethanol producers that have seen a 300 percent increase in profits in the last year
$30 million for bear exhibits at the Minnesota and Como Zoos
$12 million to renovate the Shubert Theater in downtown Minneapolis
$1 million for a replica Vikings ship in Moorhead
$500,000 for a skating rink in Roseville
$310,000 for a Shakespeare festival in Winona
$129,000 for state art grants for North Dakota museums and theaters
Now that adds up to a whopping $1,923,439,000 and that is not even the whole list. This tax money was spent on vote buying projects while that bridge remained un-repaired, but we are told the problem is taxes were not high enough. Give me a break, the problem was the lack of government responsibility and fiscal responsibility.
If the politicians in Minnesota had been more concerned with actually doing their duties of a government and ensuring roads and bridges were safe instead of spending money on a baseball stadium to buy votes for re-election we wouldn’t have these problems.
My Two Cents on Michael Vick
It seems everyone else has put their two cents worth on this case; I might as well put in mine. Unless you have been living in a cave, isolated from any kind of social contact you no doubt have heard about NFL Atlanta Quarter Back Michael Vicks’ legal problems.Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to dog fighting, and he may face felony charges in the State of Virginia for owning the property in which dog fighting took place. A felony would mean the end to Vick’s football career in the NFL.
Now from what I have read, and from the evidence available; I have little doubt that Vick knew what was going on and was a willing participant in this disturbing “sport” of dog fighting. I happen to like dogs, actually that is not completely true. I like my dog, I don’t particularly care too much about yours, but I wouldn’t want to see your dog or any dog mangled to death by other dogs for entertainment purposes. I believe a lot can be judged by how a person treats an animal. If what they have charged Michael Vick with is true then he is a poor creature lacking any sense of human decency. I would have no problem seeing some one convicted of such a crime spend some time in jail.
What do I think the Falcons should do with Vick? Well, that is totally up to them. The Falcon’s have a contract with Vick that would allow them to fire him on the spot. However, that is completely up to owner Arthur Blank and his organization.
I can say that in the past teams have been known to release or fire players before a conviction. In 2000 the Green Bay Packers released one of the best tight ends, Mark Chmura, who was charged with inappropriate sexual contact with the family babysitter. It later turned out the allegation was false, and he was found not guilty. Chmura never returned to the NFL.
As I said, the Falcons can do what ever they want with Vick until he is found guilty. If he is found guilty of a felony then the NFL should enforce the rules and clear out his locker. We will see if that happens.
My guess is that Vick will end up plea bargaining in some way that will avoid a felony conviction and he will continue to play in the NFL.
On a final note, I as a huge NFL fan also have a choice to make. If the NFL continues to allow this kind of behavior, then they will get the NBA treatment from me.
I haven’t missed the NBA one bit since I quit watching it.
The Michael Vick case has nothing to do with race!
This is not about race; there is no race card to be played in this case. It is about culture, a culture that strives in urban areas across the country.
The Humane Society of the United States estimates that organized dog fighting has increased more than 300% since 1992. In many cases the dog fighting takes place in conjunction with drug dealing. The director of the Capital Area Humane Society in Ohio told the Cincinnati Inquirer, “Dog fighting is a family event, often held in large warehouses. Children watch and there can be concession stands at one end, gambling somewhere else, and over in the corner they’ll be selling cocaine and crack.”
New Orleans journalist Eileen Loh-Harris wrote an article in 2001 about the dog fighting phenomenon titled “Fight Club.” Loh Harris wrote: "In recent years, pit bull terriers have become a macho accessory in urban culture, where kids are attracted to the animals' reputation as inherently mean dogs. Add the hard-edged glamour of the dogfight—the gambling, drugs and weapons; the illegality; the 'fight 'til you die' credo—and dog fighting flourishes in places where cultivating a tough reputation is often paramount to survival."
The Michael Vick case is about his actions and the culture of dog fighting, a culture that promotes violence and disrespect for common decency and the law.
So all you people trying to play the race card in this case, it just isn’t so. It doesn’t matter that Vick is black. What matters is dog fighting is against the law. It is against the law in all 50 states and considered a felony in 48 states.
NASCAR driver raises RPMs on Paris Hilton!
It seems Kahne was in a club in Hollywood Wednesday when he had the un-expected pleasure of Paris Hilton’s company, or should I say the pleasure was hers?

According to reports Hilton and Kahne “chatted for a while, and before they parted ways for the night, she leaned in and whispered 'God, you're cute' and kissed him!"
Who knew that NASCAR revs up Paris Hilton’s engine?
Paris Hilton has enjoyed life in the fast lane perhaps she wants to try life on the fast track.

MTCW Pic of the Day.
Democrats truly are invested in our defeat in Iraq.
It seems House democrats are starting to worry that the troop surge in Iraq is not providing them with the results they have been hoping for, which is absolute complete failure. Hey, don’t take my word for it.Democrat House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) makes that point perfectly clear in an interview with the Washington Post.
Clyburn said a good report from Army Gen. Petraeus about Iraq would likely split Democrats and ruin his party’s efforts to press for a timetable to end the war.
Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence in Baghdad. But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be "a real big problem for us."
There you have it, straight from the horses' mouth, or would that be jack asses' mouth! Progress and good news from Iraq is real big problems for democrats!
How long have I been telling you that the Democrat Party has invested in failure in Iraq? How many times have I said good news from Iraq is bad news for democrats? I have actually been ridiculed for saying such things.
“Oh come on, why would they want failure in Iraq. No one wants failure in Iraq.” people would say.
Do you see it now? The democrats are not even hiding the fact anymore. Here we have Clyburn admitting it. Last week we had Rep. Nancy Boyda walk out in a tantrum because the news was just to good.
There has never in the history of our country been a time when one major political party virtually prays for our defeat in a war so they could demonize the president and turn their countries defeat into a political victory at the polls. Never, until now!
Would it be asking too much to actually put the welfare of our country first, especially during a time of war, and the party second?
The article does say there are 47 “Blue Dog” Democrats in the House that tend to be more “moderate” or “conservative” and will probably not support a timetable for withdrawal if Petraeus delivers a positive report.
So as long as the going goes well... Perhaps the members in Congress need a reminder from history and the quote on the top of this blog site.
"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case; you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." ~ Winston Churchill
Retreat from this fight and we will be living in those times in the very near future, just as Great Britian was in June of 1942.
There is a column in todays suggested reading by Tony Blankely that will explain just exactly what June 1942 ment for Great Britian. You can read it here.
What will these actions get you in America? One will land you in jail for a hate crime. Can you guess which one?
Exhibit A. Submerging the Crucifix of Christ in a glass of Urine and taking a picture.
Exhibit B. Burning the Flag of the United States of America.Although all three of these acts are sure to be offensive to a certain group of society only one is a hate crime in the eyes of the law.
Exhibit A., actually won an award for American photographer Andres Serrano in 1989. It depicts a small plastic crucifix supporting the body of Jesus Christ submerged in a glass of the artist's urine. The piece was a winner of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art’s "Awards in the Visual Arts" competition, which is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a United States Government agency that offers support and funding for artistic projects. In fact the NEA gave Serrano a 15,000 dollar grant. In other words 15,000 of your tax dollars went to Serrano for this piece of garbage! But I digress.
Exhibit B., probably will not win you any awards. It may win you praise from your anti-America hippy friends, and it has been known to stir controversy within the halls of Congress leading Republicans to go as far as trying to limit the freedom of expression and speech with legislation to outlaw flag burning.
Exhibit C., is the only one reconized as a hate crime, and 23-year-old student at Pace University in Brooklyn, Stanislav Shmulevich, faces jail time for this action. He was arrested on Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Koran in the toilet on two separate occasions, according to the New York City Police Department.
Shmulevich has been charged with two felonies, criminal mischief and aggravated harrasment.
If Schmulevich had thrown a bible in the toilet, coated it with urine, burned a flag and chanted “Death to America and Israel,” he wouldn’t be facing jail time right now, nor should he be. Instead, he offended the religion of Islam, and that is a felony.
This is a direct attack on the constitutional right of free speech. There is no constitutional right to not be offended. There is a constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression.
Providing that this was his personal Koran, I fail to see any law broken. If it was not his own personal Koran then he may be guilty of destruction to personal property, but that is about it.
All three of these acts are tasteless in their own way, but none of them are a crime. It is called Freedom, but then again most Americans just do not understand the concept anymore.
