Kenseth wins crash-filled Daytona IROC race
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Matt Kenseth started last, avoided two major crashes and held off Martin Truex Jr. on the final lap to win the season-opening IROC series race at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night.
Kenseth quickly worked his way to the front to dominate the race, which was peppered with more aggressive bump drafting and marred by an ugly crash that sent Steve Kinser's car flipping in the air with three laps to go.
Truex briefly took the lead in Turn 2 of the final lap, but Kenseth nudged the rear of his car and he pulled aside. Sam Hornish Jr. pulled aside Kenseth in Turn 3, but Kenseth surged ahead toward the finish line with a push from Frank Kimmel.
It was Kenseth's third career victory in the International Race of Champions.
