Republicans debate tonight in South Carolina. Polls from South Carolina suggest that the war in Iraq and illegal immigration are the top issues of the voters there... It will be interesting to see what kind of questions will be asked tonight.
I decided to have a little fun and come up with the questions I would like to see asked...
Country Boy Tony Spain's questions for the Republican Presidential Canditates:
In the NBC-Wall Street Journal poll, just 22 percent believe this country is on the right track. how do we get back to Ronald Reagan's "morning in America"?
Explain how and why the Republican Party moved away from the ideals of Reagan?
What is your overall strategy to facing the threat of islamic terrorism?
What is your strategy to win the war in Iraq?
What is your strategy to win the war in Afghanistan?
Why has it been so hard to accomplish the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Explain the costly effects of withdrawal from Iraq in dealing with the Iran?
Do you believe our military is as strong as it needs to be to fight the war? If not how do we make it stronger? If so, how do we maintain the strength and continue to make it stronger?
Only 1% of the population serves in the military. The rest of the nation, with few exceptions, seems to not even realize we are at war...If the war on terror is the largest idealogical threat of our lifetime shouldn't we be more involved as a nation? Shouldn't we be doing a better job at rallying the country into the war effort? and how would you do it? Would you agree support goes farther than a yellow ribbon on a car?
Iran has already committed acts of war. Do you agree? And secondly what's your last straw for a U.S. strike in Iran? How should we deal with the real threat of Iran?
You're president. You get a call from the prime minister of Israel, the prime minister of Israel, Ehud Olmert, saying Israel's about to strike Iran's nuclear sites and he wants U.S. help. What do you say?
Do you believe illegal immigration is a national security issue? If so how do you plan to control the border?
Is global warming really an issue?
At what level should the United States keep its involvement with the United Nations?
The government of the country of Ganna has an official representative in Washington DC. The government of the State of North Carolina does not. Do you see this as a problem? Could this be a contributing factor in the immense shift of power we've seen from the local to the federal level?
Estimates claim that it costs bussinesses up to 450 billion dollars a year to comply to the tax laws in this country. Do you have any plans to reduce the burden our present tax system places on our economy?
Three part question: What percentage of all federal income taxes are paid by those in the top 1% of income earners? What percentage of the total income do the top 1% earn? Do you feel this is fair?
Are you familiar with the FairTax? If the FairTax were passed by the congress, would you sign the bill?
The competitive forces of the free marketplace have led to improvements and innovation in virtually every area of commerce. Do you support competition in our educational marketplace through school choice that would return the same rewards?
I'm not so interested in whether or not you know the difference between Shi's and Sunni Muslims as I am in whether or not you understand the difference between a democracy and a country based on the rule of law. Can you explain that difference?
There are some questions I would ask... some might get asked, but I bet the majority of them will not. Guess we will just have to see...
